I've been thinking about creating a personal project that requires 3D glasses to view it. A long time ago, I created 3D anaglyphs by creating a blue and red off-set channel in photoshop, but other than that, I've never tried this before. Any advise/tips you guys have, would be helpful.
I know that After Effects has a "3D Glasses" filter, but I'm not sure of the exact process of shooting or exporting my 3D animations from Cinema 4D so that it will properly work.
Here are my GUESSES:
For video footage - place two cameras side by side and record. (one camera for Left Channel and one for Right Channel) Hope there is a better option since I only have one camera.
For Cinema 4D/Maya: Create two cameras that are side by side and render two quicktimes out. (one from each camera view)
I'm assuming for both, my only option is the red/blue 3d glasses method, but if there are better methods (like the clear 3D glasses that are handed out at movie theaters), let me know.
Thanks.

Re: anyone have any experience with 3D video (the REAL 3D, not modeling)
Mon, January 14, 2008 - 1:20 PMBack in the 80s, I experimented with 3D a bit but using a super 8 camera.
the method i was using involved a this bulky box with mirrors.
i don't know if i can explain it fully, but i may be able to draw a diagram.
i got the idea from a short lived magazine on low budget special effects,
which i still have around somewhere.
i'll try ad find it and see if i can scan it for you.

Fri, January 18, 2008 - 4:31 PMdo some googling on stereogrammetry (might need to spell check that first...) that is the name for the two/multiple cameras guess you made. not the same as the red/green glasses (which is cheaper), but will explain the science behind it at least. i saw an amazing example of this years ago at UCLA Royce Hall which was complete with a Phillip Glass soundtrack coy-anna-scott-see is how you pronounce the name of the film. here's a link i found: www.koyaanisqatsi.org - try to find that on DVD, although i don't know how well it would translate.
nasa should have some good info on it. they use it to map planets and measure stuff.
